International academic symposium
Dedicated to the 90-th anniversary of Hero of the Soviet Union
academician Ziya Musa oglu Bunyadov

Presidium of the Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Azerbaijan after Z.M.Bunyadov are going to conduct academic symposium “The Study of primary sources and history of the Orient in Middle Ages” dedicated to 90-th anniversary of academician Z.M.Buyadov on May 7-10 in Baku.

Organizers of the Symposium are pleased to call colleagues specialized on Oriental Studies to submit abstracts of their contributions within the following thematic device:

  1. Z.M. Bunyadov’s contribution to the study of primary sources and issues of the history of Medieval Moslem Orient:

-        Significance of Z.M.Bunyadov’s studies of primary sources;
-      Arab conquests and Arabs’ relationship with vernacular population of Eastern provinces of the Moslem world in works by Z.M.Bunyadov;
-      Issues of statehood development under the Turks of Central Asia and the Caucasus in works by Z.M.Bunyadov;
-         Contribution by Z.M.Bunyadov in the study Azerbaijan statehood history;
-      The course of life and academic activities of Z.M.Bunyadov;
-         Academician Z.M.Bunyadov  the organizer and the leader of Oriental Studies in the former Soviet Union and Azerbaijan;
II. Вопросы источниковедения и историографии средневекового мусульманского Востока Issues of primary sources study and history of the medieval Moslem Orient
-      New researches on medieval history of Muslim nations in Near and Middle East, Central Asia and the Caucasus;
-        Description and presentation of new written sources on the history Moslem nations of Near and Middle East, Central Asia and the Caucasus;
-      New monuments of material culture archaeological finding on the history of Turkic nations and the people of Iran in the Middle Ages.;
-      Pre-Islamic religions and believes Iranian and Turkic people and the expansion of Islam in Central Asia and the Caucasus;
-        Christianity and Judaism in Central Asia and the Caucasus in the Middle Ages;
-        Contributions of Iranian and Turkic  people in emergence and development of literature, sciences and arts of the medieval Moslem world
-        Relationship between medieval Turkic states and the people and the states of Europe, the Middle and the Far East and Central Eurasia Far

Abstracts of 1-2 pages long (Times New Roman, size 12, single spaced) are accepted until March 25, 2012. Abstracts should be sent to the organizing should be sent to sharq@lan.ab.azaz_sharq@mail.ru. The sender should indicate full name and positron in the academic or educational institution of his/her affiliation.

 

The symposium will take place in Baku on May 7-8, 2012. After the completion of the symposium work a travel will be arranged for foreign participants to Ganja, the home city of worldly known poet Nizami Ganjavi.

Arrivals and accommodation in Baku hotels should be planned on May 6, 2012. Departures from Baku are to be planned on May 10-11, 2012.

All expenses related to the stay in Baku and travel to Ganja will be covered by symposium organizers. Participants are responsible of their travel expenses to Baku and back to their home destinations.
